Cancer Research - Sept 25/Oct 25 Push-up Challenge

Hi everyone,

I’ll be honest, blogging isn’t really my thing, but I thought I’d give it a go. So here we are!

I’m Paul Dickson from Zanpaulo Upholstery, where I spend my days bringing furniture back to life with a mix of craftsmanship, creativity, and a bit of chaos—mostly thanks to the dogs. Through this blog, I’ll be sharing what’s going on in the workshop, giving you a look at some of the projects I’m working on, and introducing you to my brilliant team (and yes, the dogs too).

But today, I want to talk about something a little more personal.

Why I Support Cancer Research UK

Every year, I raise money for Cancer Research UK, a cause that means a lot to me. My motivation comes from the loss of my amazing younger sister, Jennifer, who passed away in 2008. She was full of life, laughter, and love, and I carry her memory with me every day.

To honour her, this September through October, I’m taking on the 100 push-ups a day challenge and committing to donating blood every 12 weeks. I’m also looking into donating plasma and platelets, which can help even more people in need.

Why Give Blood?

Donating blood is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to help others. According to the Scottish National Blood Transfusion, here are just a few of the benefits:

- Every donation can save or improve up to three lives.

- Your blood is separated into red cells, plasma, and platelets, each helping different types of patients—from accident victims to cancer patients.

- Donations are processed within 24 hours, meaning your gift could be saving lives almost immediately.

- Plasma and platelets are especially vital for people undergoing cancer treatment or surgery.

- Giving blood supports research and training, helping medical professionals use donations safely and effectively.

It’s a small act that makes a big difference.

Join me in Giving Back

My fundraising target is £100.00, and every little bit helps. You can follow my push-up journey on my Facebook page and donate via this link:

Let’s do something good together.

Let’s give a little back.

Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for more updates from the workshop!
